Berlin (dpa) - After years of legal dispute with the energy companies, the federal government has agreed on compensation for the premature phase-out of nuclear power.

As emerges from a joint statement by the Federal Environment Ministry, Federal Ministry of Finance and Federal Ministry of Economics on Friday, the operators RWE, Vattenfall, Eon / PreussenElektra and Enbw are to receive almost 2.4 billion euros in compensation for lost profits and investments made in vain.
