Dresden (AP) - Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU) has defended the federal government in connection with criticism of the provision of corona tests.

His colleague from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Manuela Schwesig (SPD), had accused the federal government of the fact that corona self-tests did not arrive where they were needed most.

Schwesig said on Thursday in Schwerin that she did not understand why self-tests that are now on the market went to discount stores but were not ordered for daycare and school.

«Rapid tests are produced and available in abundance.

The new self-tests have only been approved for a few days.

The accusation to the federal government is cheap, ”said Kretschmer on Friday the German press agency in Dresden.

The federal government's promise to cover half of the costs for testing in schools and daycare centers is an important support.

"Nobody in Germany is interested in the Corona election campaign," added Kretschmer.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a new state parliament will be elected on September 26th parallel to the Bundestag.
