Berlin (dpa) - In the conflict between the German Gymnastics Federation and the Chemnitz trainer Gabriele Frehse, the Hessian data protection officer, who was called by both sides, announced that the trainer was entitled to “a fundamental right to information under the General Data Protection Regulation”.

The DTB confirmed this on Friday.

Frehse should therefore be given access to the report on the allegations made against them.

14 of her former gymnasts around ex-world champion Pauline Schäfer had accused her of verbally humiliating her during training, not accepting pain and giving medication without a doctor's prescription.

In an open letter to the Bundestag Sports Committee, Frehse admitted possible verbal missteps against female athletes, but again denied the unauthorized administration of drugs.

The DTB said on Friday that Frehse's right to view the expert report was associated with restrictions.

"In order to protect the legitimate interests of the athletes, anonymization must exclude a specific assignment of individual statements to a specific athlete."

The DTB had previously stated that it would allow Frehse to inspect the investigation report, insofar as this is permissible under data protection law.

It should be noted that the report not only contains data relating to Frehse, but also - in some cases particularly sensitive - personal data of third parties, such as gymnasts.

Therefore, the personal rights of all those affected, any anonymity promised by the investigative commission, and the protection of the people who have entrusted themselves to the investigative commission must be preserved.

In a DTB statement on the final report of a Frankfurt law firm, Frehse had been accused of “serious breaches of duty” after “in 17 cases there were sufficient actual indications for the use of psychological violence by the trainer”.

Thereupon the DTB asked the Olympic base in Saxony to terminate the employment relationship with Frehse.
