.

The facts date back to August 7, 2015. That day, an 80-year-old resident choked on lunch after eating a piece of squid that was too hard.

She died a few hours later in the hospital.

The victim, however, followed a specific diet and could only eat mixed foods.

At the hearing held on February 11, the employee admitted that she "could have made a mistake".

“It's an accident unfortunately, it can happen to anyone,” she added.

She was sentenced to an eight-month suspended prison sentence.

The employee as well as the nursing home will also have to pay 145,500 euros to the children and grandchildren of the victim.
