Marktoberdorf (dpa / lby) - 27 firefighters, two paramedics and six police officers: A broken package triggered a large-scale operation due to gas alarms in Marktoberdorf in the Ostallgäu district.

A truck driver had smelled gas when he wanted to unload his vehicle, as a police spokesman announced on Friday.

A gas detector had also struck in the incident on Thursday and reinforced the 39-year-old's suspicions.

The deployed forces cleared an adjacent business building and a gas station and partially blocked the street, as he said spokesman.

A group of dangerous goods from the fire brigade was able to quickly give the all-clear: They found a broken packet from which a liquid leaked out - very strong-smelling garlic oil.
