Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - After a particularly brutal attack on the night of the Stuttgart riot, the verdicts against two alleged rioters who are accused of attempted manslaughter are expected today (9 a.m.).

A 17-year-old from Geislingen / Steige is said to have kicked a lying on the ground and already unconscious student in the head on the heated June night.

His 19-year-old companion from Esslingen is also on trial for the attack.

The two Germans are among the 130 suspects the police have identified on the night of the riot so far.

After a drug control on June 20, 2020, dozens of mainly young men rioted in downtown Stuttgart.

Police officers were threatened, thrown at, kicked and injured, shop windows destroyed and shops looted.

Onlookers cheered the crowd on.

The incidents had made headlines and heated debates far beyond Stuttgart.

Video surveillance, alcohol and residence restrictions were discussed, and the first cameras were planned in central locations.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the then 24-year-old victim of the two young accused stood up against the rioters and asked them not to throw any more bottles.

The victim suffered a concussion, bruises and abrasions in the attack.
