Oberstdorf (dpa) - Ski jumping world champion Katharina Althaus thanked her outgoing trainer Andreas Bauer with very emotional words.

«Andi you are my HERO and I will miss you very much.

I am proud to be part of your incredible career - you are a LEGEND! ”Wrote Althaus from the Allgäu on Friday in the social networks.

The 57-year-old coach, who looked after the German ski jumping women for the past decade, announced this Thursday that he would give up his post after the end of the season and take care of an unspecified “private project”.

The 24-year-old was with Bauer almost the entire time and has now won four world titles and Olympic silver in Pyeongchang.

"You brought me into the team as a young girl at the age of 15 and I grew up in this sport with you by my side," emphasized Althaus.

Even a day and a half after Bauer's decision was announced, she was “still speechless and overwhelmed”.

It is still unclear who will succeed Bauer in the 2021/22 Olympic season.
