As part of the case of the storming of the Capitol, United States law enforcement officers arrested a former State Department employee, 42-year-old Federico Klein.

This is reported by the American publication Politico, citing a statement by the press secretary of the FBI's Washington office, Samantha Shero.

It is known that in 2016, Klein worked for Donald Trump's election campaign.

With the coming to power of the 45th President of the United States, he began his career in the State Department, where until the beginning of this year he changed several low positions.

On the eve of Joe Biden's inauguration, January 19, 2021, Klein resigned.

At the moment, the US authorities do not officially disclose the essence of the accusations against the former employee of the State Department.

Citing FBI documents, NBC claims that bureau officials identified Klein in one of the videos of an attack on police officers guarding the Capitol on January 6.

The Trump supporter has reportedly faced six charges, including obstruction of Congress, violent incursion and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

At the same time, Klein's mother Cecilia is not sure that her son did not participate in the riots during the events of January 6.

“Fred's political views are slightly radical, but, as far as I know, he never broke the law ... I think that day, as he said, he was on the National Mall (in Washington -

But I have no proof, and I will never ask him about it, unless he himself tells me where he was after visiting the alley, "- quoted by Politico Cecilia Klein.

"A classic case of a witch hunt"

We will remind, on January 6, 2021 in Washington, citizens rallying in support of Trump broke through police cordons and seized the building of the US Congress.

The clashes killed five people, including one policeman.

Officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the US Department of Justice and members of the independent commission, which was announced in mid-February by the Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, are engaged in clarifying the circumstances of the events of January 6.

One of the tasks assigned to the investigation is to establish the presence or absence of collusion between Trump and members of his administration with the participants in the riots.

In early February, members of the House of Representatives accused the ex-president of the United States of knowingly inciting his supporters to mutiny.

Suspicions of an attempted coup d'etat formed the basis of Trump's impeachment procedure.

Nevertheless, on February 13, the Senate acquitted the former president.

President-elect Joe Biden and Democrats were unhappy with the verdict, noting that it did not overturn the accusations.

Trump himself called this process a "witch hunt."

Now under investigation are about 300 alleged Capitol thugs.

As noted by the American media, the peculiarity of the criminal case against the detained Klein is that it is the first against an official of the Trump administration as part of the investigation into the events of January 6.

Experts believe that in a situation of acute political confrontation in the United States, Democrats and investigators will try to present the charges against Klein as convincing proof of the responsibility of the previous White House administration for the deaths of five people.

“The Klein case is necessary for the Democrats to intensify the rhetoric regarding the 'evidence' of the connection of the previous White House administration with the pogromists.

But the Klein case is very weak.

In fact, he was a clerk, he did not play any role in decision-making and was infinitely far from the Trump figure, ”American political scientist Dmitry Drobnitsky said in an interview with RT.

According to the expert, for almost two months, Democrats and investigators have been unsuccessfully trying to find former officials close to Trump who could be involved in the actions of the pogromists.

But the Klein case, according to the analyst, will not have serious legal consequences.

“It is appropriate to say here that the Democrats will try to arrange this process in the media in order to reinforce their thesis about the“ collusion ”of the members of the former administration with the rioters.

That is, we get a classic case of a "witch hunt," says Drobnitsky.

"There is no direct evidence"

According to CNN, federal investigators are currently examining the likelihood that one of the members of Congress could - knowingly or unknowingly - help the protesters.

According to the journalists, at the moment, the investigators allegedly already have data indicating the communication of the legislators with the persons who seized the congress building on January 6.

Also, law enforcement officers allegedly have records indicating that the rioters discussed their ties with members of the American parliament.

Initially, the investigation proceeded from the fact that the pogromists' plans included not only the capture of the Capitol, but also the murder of congressmen.

However, the United States Department of Justice later dropped such suspicions.

In particular, in mid-January, the acting Attorney of the District of Columbia, Michael Sherwin, during a telephone press conference, said that law enforcement officers "have no direct evidence of the presence of groups for murder or capture (lawmakers. -

From the point of view of experts, the investigation into the storming of the Capitol from the first day has been under strong pressure from the Democrats, who previously put forward many accusations against congressmen from the Republican Party.

So, a few days after the assault, three dozen legislators from the Democratic Party sent a letter to the Capitol police, in which they announced the possible involvement of some of their colleagues in the seizure of the building.

They also claimed that the rioters acted according to a certain plan.

"Democrats, apparently, are sorely lacking in evidence to convict Trump and his team members of inciting people, to portray them as a kind of" internal terrorists ", that is, destroyers of state foundations deserving the most severe punishment," the doctor said in a commentary on RT. political sciences Andrey Manoilo.

From the expert's point of view, accusations of collusion with the rioters are politically biased and do not help to overcome the split in American society.

According to Manoilo, conservative citizens of the United States perceive the case of the storming of the Capitol as an encroachment on their civil rights.

“There are different opinions in American society.

But, as far as I can tell, most US citizens believe that the investigation into the riots has turned into settling personal scores with Trump.

There are also supporters of right-wing views in the United States, including ultra-right conservatives, who, not without reason, perceive the accusation of collusion as a blow to themselves, ”Manoilo said.

In turn, Dmitry Drobnitsky believes that the key goal of the case of the storming of the Capitol is to exclude Trump from political life and reduce the influence of the Republicans.

According to the expert, the Democrats expect that the resonance around the topic of "collusion" with the rioters will allow them to win the midterm congressional elections in 2022.

“Democrats are trying to establish one-party rule by tightening the screws, intimidating and planting dissent.

Thus, the Democrats are trying to reshape the political system for themselves and eliminate the likelihood of any surprises from Trump, ”concluded Drobnitsky.
