Erfurt (dpa / th) - Women in Thuringia still have a lower average income than men - but the difference is nowhere near as great as in West German federal states.

This is the result of studies by labor market experts, which were presented on Thursday in Erfurt with a view to Women's Day on March 8th.

Full-time women in Thuringia have an average gross monthly income of 2558 euros, men of 2700 euros.

This is the result of a study by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB).

In the health sector, the pay between women and men is now even the same, said Michaela Fuchs from the IAB.

There are still big differences in administration, for example.

According to Michael Behr from the Thuringian Ministry of Labor, East German women earn 20 percent less than men if you look at their entire career.

In West Germany they would have 50 percent less than men, mainly because of a different employment pattern with more part-time work.

The East German value is comparable to that in Scandinavian countries.

Overall, Behr confirmed that women had a strong position on the Thuringian labor market.

This also results from the fact that there is a good care infrastructure that also enables women with children to have a full-time job.

"And in terms of their qualifications, they are no worse than men."

According to the IAB study, around a third of all employees subject to social security contributions in Thuringia work in the so-called systemically relevant professions that are necessary for the functioning of society.

More than 60 percent of these are carried out by women.

This includes health and nursing care.
