Italy has blocked the sending of 250,000 doses of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine to Australia.

Our country notified Brussels of its proposed block at the end of last week under the laws on the transparency of exports of anti-Covid vaccines outside the Union.

To report it is the Financial Times.

This is the first time that the device envisaged by the new EU control regime, created after AstraZeneca's decision to cut off supplies agreed to the EU in the first quarter, has been applied.

The announcement by the British pharmaceutical company had raised suspicions that part of the vaccine production for the EU was being diverted to other countries.

At the last EU summit, the prime minister, Mario Draghi, had insisted on the blocking of exports outside the EU for companies that do not respect the contracts signed with the Union.
