• Royals UK concern over the true state of health of the Duke of Edinburgh

  • Health The Duke of Edinburgh has been transferred to another hospital for further tests

The

Duke of Edinburgh,

husband of Queen Elizabeth II, underwent "successfully" at

99 years

of

age

an operation

for a pre-existing heart problem,

after spending more than two weeks hospitalized as a result of an infection.

Transferred on Monday from a small private London hospital

to the large public medical center

in St. Bartholomew, Prince Philip

"will remain in hospital for several days

to be treated, rest and recover," Buckingham Palace reported Thursday.

The surgery "to treat a pre-existing heart disease" was performed on Wednesday, it said in a statement.

That same day, the consort's daughter-in-law,

Camila

, wife of the crown prince of the British throne Carlos, had told reporters that the health of Felipe, who will turn 100 in June,

was "improving slightly."

Prince Charles, after visiting his father in hospital last week.

The queen's husband was admitted to hospital on February 16 as a "precautionary measure" after feeling ill.

Given speculation and concern about his advanced age, Buckingham reported that the hospitalization

was not related to Covid-19,

but was due to an infection.

On Monday morning, an ambulance left the King Edward VII Private Hospital,

hiding

the patient

with an umbrella

from the many cameras and photographers who stood guard at the door.

The ambulance that transported Prince Philip from King Edward VII Private Hospital to St. Bartholomew a few days ago.

The fact that he was taken to St. Bartholomew, which has the largest specialist cardiovascular disease department in Europe for cardiac tests, raised

concerns for his condition.

But Camila said that

"she suffers only occasionally."

"We crossed our fingers," he added in front of the media during an official visit.

Prince Charles had visited

his father at King Edward VII the first weekend after he entered.

And his grandson

Guillermo

assured last week that the Duke of Edinburgh was well and that the doctors were "watching over him."
