The institution in Skenäs was the first institution at which the Swedish Prison and Probation Service built a typical house.

It was inaugurated in May last year.

The construction of two more residential buildings is currently underway at the institution and on Thursday a decision was made to build another one.

- Ultimately, it is about lack of space and we are expanding on the units where we already intend to expand.

Skenäs is one of the places where there was initially an idea to build four typical houses, says Tony Bertlin who is head of Skenäsanstalten.

180 places in total

In total, Skenäs will have four typical houses.

The target picture for the number of places is now around 180 at Skenäsanstalten.

- Types two and three will be ready in 2022 already.

I have a hard time commenting on the fourth, but would guess that it will be ready around 2024, says Tony Bertlin.

A new so-called type house is now being built, which will serve as a model for future prison care around the country.
