Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - With a car parade, around 150 taxi drivers demonstrated for fair competition on Thursday in Düsseldorf.

The drivers - mainly from Düsseldorf and Cologne - drove in a long column through the city center to the State Chancellery, honking their horns.

The protest was mainly directed against competition from rental car companies such as Uber.

"We do not shy away from competition, but it must offer the same opportunities for everyone," said Dennis Klusmeier, Vice President of the NRW Taxi Association, according to the announcement.

On the initiative of Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU), the federal government wants to change the Passenger Transport Act in order to open up the transport service market to new mobility providers.
