Usedom (dpa / mv) - Usedom has been recognized for its tourism marketing as the “lighthouse of the tourism industry” by the East German Savings Bank Association (OSV).

According to a statement on Thursday, the award was given to a film competition organized by the marketing organization, in which film teams were invited to shoot a 100-second film about Usedom in 100 hours.

Usedom knows that pictures are convincing, according to the OSV's justification.

The competition is so far unique in Germany.

Usedom Tourismus GmbH, together with Filmmaker Germany ww GmbH, is the state winner for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The OSV awarded the prize in the run-up to the International Tourism Exchange, which is taking place digitally this year due to corona.

Projects were also recognized in the other East German federal states.

The Corona crisis has slowed down the good development of tourism in East Germany in recent years and has severely affected businesses and leisure facilities in some cases, the OSV said.

At the same time, the pandemic accelerated digitization, for example.

According to OSV, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania recorded 18.6 percent fewer overnight stays in 2020 than in 2019.
