Moscow (dpa) - According to Russian information, work on the aging space station ISS should continue until 2028.

The decision to extend the billion-dollar project was made “at the highest levels”, said the deputy chairman of the Russian space company RKK Energija, Yuri Gidsenko, on state television.

So far, the Russians and Americans had ISS plans until 2024. The space station has been in space around 400 kilometers above the earth for more than 20 years.

An extension of the mission has long been discussed.

It was also about the question of whether the technical condition of the station even allows an extension.

For months, the outpost of humanity has been struggling with evasive air and pressure drops.

The crew is currently busy plugging a 4.5 centimeter long leak.

Work on another apparently leaky point should begin in the coming week.

However, the cracks “in no way” led to a shortening of the work on the ISS, which is planned until 2028, said Gidsenko.
