“Given that Commerzbank is closing our accounts without giving any reason, and about 20 German and international financial institutions have refused to cooperate with us, we have reason to believe that a campaign is being waged against RT in Germany, which essentially amounts to a financial embargo,” she said Dinara Toktosunova, head of RT in Germany.
In November 2020, both companies received notifications from the Commerzbank, in which they are served, about the change in conditions.
These changes, according to the notification, were to take effect three days later, which violates the notification terms specified in the agreement with the bank.
Through lawyers, the notice period was contested, after which a new notice was received about the change in the conditions already in compliance with the terms specified in the contract.
Violation of contractual obligations and lack of proper communication on the part of the bank were unambiguously regarded as unfriendly actions, as a result of which the companies turned to a number of other banks with inquiries.
In the months that have passed since the first notification of the tariff change, Ruptly has sent dozens of requests to other banks in Germany (as well as European banks with branches in Germany) asking to open an account.
Most of the requests were rejected, the rest were ignored.
