Cologne (dpa / lnw) - A nurse is said to have raped an 81-year-old patient several times in Cologne.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the 63-year-old of three cases in which he allegedly took advantage of the victim's serious illness.

The process at the Cologne district court is to begin on March 15, as a spokesman announced.

According to the indictment, the 81-year-old has been paralyzed on one side for ten years.

Since a stroke at the end of 2019, the woman has also been so restricted that she is no longer able to communicate with her surroundings.

Specifically, the accusation is that the carer has committed sexual acts on a person who has been entrusted to him for care because of an illness or disability.

A court spokesman said: "The rape allegation is not based on the use of force, but on the exploitation of the victim's inability to form an opposing will."

The evidence against the accused, who took care of the woman as a domestic carer, is said to be overwhelming.

A camera with a motion detector installed by the daughter in her mother's room is said to have documented the rapes.

The spokesman said the reason for installing the camera was not a specific suspicion.

Rather, the woman wanted to hear possible movements of her mother - to prevent the risk of falling out of bed.

The care of the 81-year-olds by the nurse from Romania is said to have come about through a company that specializes in the placement of Eastern European nurses.

Initially, five days of hearing are planned at the Cologne Regional Court.
