Wiesbaden / Hanover (dpa / lni) - Around a year after the start of the corona pandemic, people in Lower Saxony limit their mobility noticeably less, at least when the weather is nice.

As shown in a special evaluation by the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden on Thursday, mobility slowly approached the pre-crisis level in the second half of February 2021.

In the first two weeks of February, mobility across the country was repeatedly up to 20 percent below the level of February 2019. The decline has been less since around the middle of the month.

The weather played an important role in this: On Sunday, February 21st, spring-like temperatures meant that mobility was even one percent above the comparative value of the year before the crisis.

In Bremen, on the other hand, there was still a decline of four percent that day.

The opposite was observed on February 7th: The massive onset of winter with heavy snowfall meant that mobility in Lower Saxony fell by 49 percent compared to 2019, in Bremen the decrease was 48 percent.
