Berlin (dpa / bb) - Because he is said to have attacked a man on a subway station in Berlin-Neukölln, a 34-year-old has to answer before the regional court.

According to the indictment, he is said to have swung two straps tied together like a lasso and hit a 26-year-old man in a targeted manner.

The victim was hit in the chest and arm.

The defendant said at the start of the trial on Thursday that he could not remember what happened in February 2019.

The 26-year-old described in the process that the defendant suddenly ran up to him at the Lipschitzallee subway station, "roaring loudly".

"He looked very aggressive," said the witness.

"I ran away, but he followed me."

Out of fear, he then pressed an emergency button at the subway station and alerted the police.

The injuries suffered were, however, "not bad".

According to the indictment, the 34-year-old put up considerable resistance.

He approached the officers "with the lashing straps swinging wildly".

These would have used irritant gas against the attacker.

During the nightly incident, the defendant finally went to the track bed, walked into the railway tunnel and threw stones at the pursuers.

The defendant stated that "a few things went wrong with him" at the time.

The trial of assault, law enforcement officer resistance and libel resumed tomorrow (Friday).
