The relationship between Italians and the EU has taken a remarkable rollercoaster ride over the past twelve months.

With mediocre approval ratings, things went downhill at the beginning of the corona pandemic.

When the other EU countries did not respond in solidarity to the brutal outbreak of the coronavirus in the country, but even prevented the export of medical material, the pent-up frustration of the past decade broke in Italy over the austerity measures imposed by Brussels and Berlin and the lack of cooperation in the Refugee crisis out.

In the meantime, the mood has completely changed.

But behind the supposed success there is a risky strategy.
