Paderborn (dpa / lnw) - The Paderborn public prosecutor is investigating 16 doctors on suspicion of having issued false corona certificates.

"We are checking because of the possible issuance of corona certificates of the wrong kind in 20 proceedings," said a spokesman for the authorities on Thursday.

Previously, "Radio Hochstift" reported on the allegations against the doctors.

15 doctors are active in the Paderborn district, one in Porta Westfalica.

Knowingly issuing false certificates is a separate criminal offense, explained the public prosecutor's office.

According to the report by "Radio Hochstift", such certificates were found among other things at anti-corona demos in Paderborn.

In it it was certified that the victims allegedly did not have to wear mouth and nose protection for health reasons.

The police confiscated some of these certificates.

The public prosecutor's office did not provide any details.
