Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - The Magdeburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry sees the limit for many companies being reached.

"For many companies the situation remains worrying," said the President of the Magdeburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Klaus Olbricht, on Thursday in Magdeburg.

The business climate of the commercial economy in the north of Saxony-Anhalt had improved slightly towards the end of 2020.

Despite the increase, the companies are "far, far away" from a quick recovery, said Olbricht.

Around half of the companies surveyed had expected a less favorable development for the first quarter of 2021.

These were primarily companies from industry and the hospitality sector as well as service providers.

Only about one in ten companies expected the situation to improve.

“Despite all the aid measures, the federal and state government has only partially succeeded in finding a binding and uniform way of dealing with the challenges of this pandemic.

Neither in the rapid disbursement of aid, nor in the expansion of digitization in administration and schools - and not in the risk assessment of how to do business and live with the virus, "said IHK President Olbricht.

IHK General Manager Wolfgang März explained: “The hotel, catering, tour operators and travel agencies are forgotten sectors with no clear opening perspective.

That heats up the mood enormously. "

A challenge would be possible different regulations in the regions of neighboring federal states, said March.

Different opening scenarios could lead to a kind of economic tourism.

That damages the locations with stricter rules and could fuel the spread of the virus again.

According to its own statements, the IHK Magdeburg represents around 50,000 companies in northern Saxony-Anhalt from the Altmark to the Harz Mountains.
