Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - Hessian foreign trade has shrunk somewhat within a year, mainly because of the corona pandemic.

The value of goods imported into the state in 2020 was just under 101 billion euros, 1.9 percent below the level of the previous year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Thursday in Wiesbaden.

Not only “short-time work, production standstills, border controls and closings” during the pandemic would have influenced Hessian foreign trade last year.

"Foreign policy tensions with the USA and Brexit also presented companies in Hessen with economic challenges."

With a volume of more than 61 billion euros, the value of exports was 5.7 percent below the previous year.

Above all, the value of exported electrotechnical products, as well as vehicles and vehicle parts exported, has fallen significantly.

According to statisticians, the largest falls in imports were also in vehicles and vehicle accessories, as well as machinery.
