  In recent years, Huang Lanxiang has led a research team to Yueyang to investigate the ecological management of Dongting Lake and understand the construction of the Dongting Lake ecological economic zone.

In an interview with reporters, she said that after nearly 6 years of rectification, Hunan has fundamentally reversed the trend of deterioration of the ecological environment of Dongting Lake.

In 2020, the average concentration of total phosphorus in Dongting Lake will drop by 9.1%, which is about 47% lower than in 2015.

  "Hunan continues to improve the ecological environment of the wetland in Dongting Lake, and the beautiful scenes of egrets flying and finless porpoise prancing again. Huang Lanxiang suggested that the policy resources of various ministries and commissions should be integrated, and key support should be given to the Dongting Lake area in key river basin management, wetland ecological restoration, and green development.

  Dongting Lake swallows the Yangtze River and accepts the four waters of Hunan, Capital, Yuan, and Li. With its huge flood capacity, it has turned floods into danger for countless times in history, and ensured that the vast areas of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River were turned from danger to safety.

  However, the accumulation of sediment and changes in the relationship between rivers and lakes have caused the "kidney of the Yangtze River" Dongting Lake to suffer from "kidney stones". Many connected rivers have been obstructed, and the capacity of water storage and water passing has also been weakened.

Implementing large-scale dredging and supporting construction engineering measures to fundamentally restore the "kidney function" of Dongting Lake, and improving the water environment of Dongting Lake is urgently needed.

  An important water transportation channel connecting Hunan and Hubei provinces, Jianghan Plain and Dongting Lake Plain is being planned.

It is one of the “four vertical and four horizontal” backbone high-level water transportation channels in the national comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network. The construction content includes river dredging projects, backbone river-lake connection projects in the shoal, etc., which is to adjust the relationship between the Yangtze River and Dongting Lake and restore the ecological environment of the Yangtze River.   "At present, Hunan aquatic germplasm resources demonstration, site planning, land pre-examination, geological disasters and mining, and wetland park impacts have been completed.
