Mainz (dpa / lrs) - From the beginning of April, all people in Rhineland-Palatinate should have the opportunity to be tested for a corona infection free of charge once a week.

Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) announced on Thursday in the council of elders of the state parliament that the country's test strategy would be extensively expanded by then.

In addition to the rapid tests that have already been introduced for the staff at daycare centers and schools, preparations will be made until the beginning of April to have all students tested once a week, Dreyer said.

The resolution agreed on Wednesday evening by the federal and state governments also provides “that companies in Germany are asked to offer at least one free quick test per week”.

The federal government will hold final talks on this this week.

It is planned that employers will make the rapid tests available.

Finally, there will also be a test offer for all citizens, said Dreyer.

This will be initiated jointly in coordination with the federal states.

This will give testing a new dynamic, said Dreyer.

Dreyer described the expansion of vaccination options as a “good prospect” with a view to the agreed step-by-step plan to lift the existing lockdown restrictions.

From the end of March or the beginning of April, the doctor's practices would be involved in the vaccination - "then the vaccination can go into the area".

All large companies in Rhineland-Palatinate have also declared their willingness to take part in the vaccination with company doctors.
