Dresden (dpa / sn) - Customs has seized more than 170,000 untaxed cigarettes on Autobahn 4 near Vierkirchen in the Görlitz district.
The customs officers checked a van at the Am Wacheberg rest area on Tuesday, the 34-year-old driver of which said he wanted to bring parcels to Leipzig and Chemnitz, as the customs announced on Thursday.
When the officers searched the car, they discovered the cigarette cartons wrapped in aluminum foil.
Criminal tax proceedings were initiated against the driver.
For the cigarettes 43 250 euros in taxes would have been due.
