Berlin (dpa) - After gloomy times of cultural standstill in the corona pandemic, a slow revival is emerging.

With the resolutions of the federal and state governments, the cultural scene can hope for opening in several steps - provided that the infection process allows it.

The schedule triggers cautious approval from museums and theaters, while cinemas and organizers, for example, expect significantly more.

"So far, the culture came at the very end," said Marc Grandmontagne, Managing Director of the German Stage Association, on Thursday of the dpa in Berlin.

With the current concept, "culture is taken into account again with every opening step".

According to the agreements, the federal states can open museums and galleries from Monday (March 8), depending on the course of the pandemic, with a time ticket if the situation worsens.

Theaters, concert and opera houses and cinemas could open from March 22nd, if in doubt with a Covid-19 test.

Then the further procedure should also be discussed.

"This is a step in the right direction," said Grandmontagne.

"The theaters have done a lot in the last few months to prepare for such a moment."

Now it is important to open as much as possible without losing control.

He is betting on numerous performances until the end of the summer season.

The German Museum Association wants to use opening options in conjunction with the federal states.

"We appeal to the federal states to seek an exchange with the museums and state museum associations so that the opportunities can also be used," said President Eckart Koehne of the dpa.

The houses already met requirements such as advance bookings in many areas.

"We believe that this is a viable option."

It is certainly not economically viable, but there is an opportunity «to finally offer museum experiences again and to open the gates».

In Berlin, the first houses of the state museums on Museum Island want to reopen from March 16.

According to dpa information, the opening of all houses is planned for April 1st.

The Berlin State Museums have 15 collections with 4.7 million objects in 19 locations.

The museums visited almost 4.2 million people in 2019, the last year before Corona.

The Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels is pleased that bookshops are now opening up nationwide.

By “assigning bookstores to shops for daily needs, they recognize the important contribution that these make to our society”, said the general manager, Alexander Skipis.

In some federal states, bookshops are not affected by the current lockdown.

State Minister for Culture Monika Grütters sees an "important sign of hope for the culture that has been badly hit by the pandemic".

Openings are responsible, easy to implement and necessary for creatives and audiences alike, said the CDU politician in Berlin.

"Especially in these times, Germany needs culture because it creates space for debate and democracy, empathy and energy."

In the cinema industry, the resolutions are criticized as inadequate.

"Ultimately, the reopening of the culture was postponed," said Christian Bräuer from the AG Kino-Gilde of the dpa.

There are “just too many unanswered questions”.

Conditions are unclear, such as the implementation of rapid tests.

“Cultural participation must not be a luxury good,” said Bräuer.

«We urgently need free and practicable solutions.

That is still open. "

The HDF Kino association lacks a nationwide uniform perspective.

"In view of the economic situation of the film theater, this is a severe blow and a major hurdle for the start of new films," said board member Christine Berg in a statement.

There is also strong criticism from the event industry: The German Event Association is “stunned”.

There is still a lack of "any opening perspective for the culture and events industry," it said.

"After the persistently sluggish and inadequate aid programs, with each additional week of lockdown, many entrepreneurs are faced with the rubble of their livelihoods, and countless jobs are lost."

Pilot projects would finally have to be started in order to be able to test existing opening concepts.

There is also no nationwide opening strategy for the Event Management Forum.

The association #AlarmstufeRot sees “no events until the end of the year without improvement”.

Comprehensive hygiene strategies have already made infection-proof events possible.
