Leipzig (dpa / sn) - An alliance of clubs, initiatives, parties and trade unions wants to oppose the demonstrations by opponents of the Corona measures in Leipzig on Saturday.

"We call on people to actively oppose this ignorant and unsanitary behavior with creative means," said Irene Rudolph-Kokot from the action network "Leipzig takes place" on Thursday.

Elevators with motorbikes and bicycles as well as rallies with several hundred people on Augustusplatz in front of the opera house and the Gewandhaus are planned for Saturday noon.

The critics of the Corona restrictions have registered several car parades with hundreds of vehicles from different cities in Saxony in the trade fair city for Saturday.

A rally originally announced near the vaccination center at the New Fair for up to 1000 participants was withdrawn by the registrants, according to the city.

A column of vehicles is to lead through the middle of the city center over the ring, which has been steeped in history since the Peaceful Revolution in 1989.

The action alliance is planning a human chain on this route - with the aim of slowing down the opponents of the corona measures.

"According to the hygiene concept, all participants should wear masks and keep a distance of two meters," explained Rudolph-Kokot.

Since the route has not yet been determined, there will be short-term mobilization via social networks.

"We call on people to practice civil disobedience in many places."

The police say they are preparing for a large-scale operation.

Federal and state forces were requested from the Ministry of the Interior.

Due to the numerous car parades, the security forces expect considerable traffic obstructions in the area of downtown Leipzig.

The virus should not be misused to carry misanthropic demands into the city, said the left parliamentarian, Marco Böhme.

"In addition, one expresses justified criticism of government measures in a pandemic with respect and moral courage and does not paralyze half the city - even for rescue workers - with a motorcade."

The demos in November showed how quickly such an event could become a super-spreader event, emphasized the Green Ulrike Böhm.

Last November, a demonstration by critics of the Corona measures got completely out of hand and caused a stir nationwide.

Tens of thousands of participants had gathered in the city center and violated Corona requirements in rows.

When the city finally disbanded the meeting, the demonstrators forced a march across the Leipzig inner city ring, although this had been forbidden.
