Cologne (dpa / lnw) - Cologne's mayor Henriette Reker is largely satisfied with the latest corona resolutions by the federal and state governments.

"First of all, I think it's good that there is an opening perspective at all," said the non-party politician in the WDR5 interview on Thursday morning.

"That is what we have all been waiting for and what makes us all persevere: That you can recognize a goal."

Reker warned the citizens of Cologne to be careful and to adhere to the corona rules.

The city's clear goal is to get the seven-day incidence below 50 as soon as possible.

On Thursday, the number of new infections per 100,000 euros within a week, according to the Robert Koch Institute in the largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia, was 72.0 - and thus higher than the national average (62.8).

“We have to get under 50 to take the opening steps.

The last and the last must understand that now. "

The 64-year-old hopes that the perspective shown “motivates Cologne residents to really stick to the rules”.

Reker welcomes the future offer of a free quick test per week for every citizen, but would have gone one step further.

You have to increase the speed of vaccination and testing.

"We have to test what it takes," said the mayor.

«Once a week is a little too little for me.

I would have suggested twice a week. "

On Wednesday, the Prime Minister and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) agreed to extend the lockdown to March 28 because of the continued high number of infections.

However, there should be further opening options depending on the infection situation.
