Erfurt (dpa / th) - City and local councils in Thuringia should also be able to hold their meetings as video conferences in serious crisis situations.

The parliamentary interior committee agreed on a corresponding change to the Thuringian municipal order on Thursday, as the parliamentary groups from the Left, SPD and CDU announced.

This draws the lessons from the Corona crisis, said the SPD member of the state parliament Janine Merz.

It will ensure "that legally effective decisions can be made even in times of crisis and that the top administrators do not have to make use of their sole right to make urgent decisions," said Left MP Sascha Bilay.

The local government will be "pandemic-proof", added the internal policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Raymond Walk.

The coalition factions of the Left, SPD and Greens had reached an agreement with the opposition CDU on a joint draft law to amend the local government order, which is to be dealt with in the next week's state parliament session.
