Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Almost a million people in North Rhine-Westphalia received an initial vaccination against the corona virus.

Since the start of vaccination at the end of December, 959 746 first vaccinations have taken place nationwide as of 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.

449,292 people also received the second injection for full vaccination protection.

This is based on data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), which the Ministry of Health published in its "Numbers of the day" section on the Internet.

According to the RKI, 33,483 people in North Rhine-Westphalia received their first Corona vaccination within one day, with the reporting status being compared on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, this number can fluctuate more because of the reporting channels.

The vaccination rate for first vaccinations in North Rhine-Westphalia is 5.3 percent and is thus slightly below the national average, which the RKI puts at 5.5 percent.

For the second vaccinations, it looks similar with vaccination rates of 2.5 percent in North Rhine-Westphalia and 2.7 percent nationwide according to the latest reporting data as of Thursday.

Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) declared on Thursday in the state parliament when explaining the federal-state resolutions on the course in the pandemic that the one millionth person in North Rhine-Westphalia will be vaccinated this week.

Laschet spoke of an initial 70,000 first vaccinations per week, the number of which had risen to 100,000 per week.

"And I think there has to be more."

The vaccine bottleneck will be resolved by the end of March.

Therefore, family doctors could also be involved in the vaccination campaign in April.

A fourth vaccine, that of Johnson & Johnson, is expected to be added in March.
