Munich (dpa) - According to the group works council, there will be no redundancies at Airbus in Germany.

"The layoffs are off the table," said the works council on Thursday.

Offers to leave the company voluntarily were so well received that it was possible to "overcome the greatest crisis in the company's history without layoffs," said the chairman of the group works council, Holger Junge.

The works council and IG Metall had agreed with Airbus management to extend the agreement on short-time working until the end of 2021 to bridge the remaining capacity gaps.

The short-time work allowance will be increased to 82 percent of wages up to the assessment ceiling.

A “collective reduction in working hours” will be possible from 2022.

The decision on this lies with the local operating parties.

In the event of job changes within the group, the previous remuneration is guaranteed.

Because of the travel restrictions and the slump in air traffic in the Corona crisis, Airbus announced six months ago that it would cut 15,000 jobs worldwide - including a good 5000 of the 50,000 jobs in Germany.

Airbus has cut aircraft production by 40 percent.

But recently Airbus chief financial officer Dominik Asam had said that because of the short-time working allowance in Germany and France as well as state funding for research, "a few thousand fewer jobs" could be lost.

"The extensive use of the volunteer program from the social plan prevented radical deforestation," explained the works council.

The company management has informed the KBR that it will not issue any redundancies for operational reasons, ”said Junge and his deputy Thomas Pretzl.
