According to experts from the Icelandic Meteorological Agency, there are signs that large-scale earthquakes and volcanic eruptions may occur in the area in the near future.

The Icelandic Civil Defense Department has raised the risk level in the capital Reykjavík and Reykjanes to "alert level".
