Bremerhaven (dpa / bb) - The Eisbären Berlin have ended their series of defeats in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and expanded their lead in the northern group.

On Thursday evening, the capital city won the second in the table Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven 5: 1 (2: 0, 3: 1, 0: 0) after losing three games in a row.

Leonhard Pföderl, Matt White, Sebastian Streu, Haakon Hänelt and Zach Boychuk ensured the sovereign success with their goals.

In front of empty stands in the Bremerhaven ice arena, the polar bears started very concentrated and took the lead with Pföderl's 15th goal of the season.

White extended the lead with a powerful long-range shot when the Berliners played in the majority for the first time.

Shortly after the first break, the guests moved on within a furious three minutes: Streu, the 17-year-old Hänelt with his first DEL goal and Boychuk scored for the table leader.

The hosts then replaced their keeper Tomas Pöpperle with Brandon Maxwell and were able to shorten seconds before the end of the third with a goal from Christian Hilbrich.

However, the clear victory of the polar bears was no longer in danger because the capitals controlled the game in the final section.
