The North Nudo works begin today to affect traffic in the north of the capital with more intensity.

The Madrid City Council will cut the branch from Paseo de la Castellana to M-607 / Avenida de la Ilustracion on Wednesday, March 3, in the direction of Colmenar Viejo.

This cut will last 11 months and is due to the progress in the remodeling work of this important traffic junction through which 270,000 vehicles pass every day, being one of the most important road junctions in Spain.

The cuts are made because the City Council is going to build a new underpass that will collect traffic from the Castellana in the direction of Avenida de la Ilustracion and the M-30.

The Nudo Norte now joins the Paseo de la Castellana with the Autovía del Norte (A-1), the M-11, the M-30 and the Colmenar road (M-607).

The braiding of highways currently causes numerous traffic jams at rush hour, both in the morning and at night and in both directions.

The next traffic impact will occur on March 23, when the lanes of the trunk of the M-607 / M-30 will be reordered and reduced.

At the intersection where vehicles coming from the Nudo de Manoteras converge (towards M-607 / Avenida de la Ilustracion) with the section where the cut of the branch ends.

This road will be reduced from four lanes to three and will be diverted to the south by the median enabled during the previous days.

These works are necessary to begin the construction of the underpass that will collect the traffic coming from the Paseo de la Castellana and heading towards the Burgos road (A-1) and the M-11 (airport).

To go to the Colmenar road and avoid the cut that begins this Wednesday, the City Council recommends three alternative routes through the northeast of the city: Paseo de la Castellana, Monforte de Lemos, Ginzo de Limia and Avenida de la Ilustracion;

Plaza de Castilla, Avenida de Asturias, Ginzo de Limia and Avenida de la Enlightenment, or by Sister Angela de la Cruz, Sister Angela de la Cruz tunnel, Valle de Mena and Avenida de la Enlightenment.

The Environment and Mobility Area led by Borja Carabante began the work to reform the Nudo Norte at the beginning of December.

A month earlier, 83,160 letters were sent to residents in the neighborhoods of Sanchinarro, Virgen del Cortijo and Valdebebas (Hortaleza);

La Paz, Las Tablas, Mirasierra and Valverde (Fuencarral-El Pardo);

Pinar de Chamartín (Ciudad Lineal) and the neighborhood of Castilla (Chamartín).
