Dresden / Berlin (dpa / sn) - The Saxon SPD considers it logical to classify the entire AfD as a right-wing extremist suspected case by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

"After years of radicalization, the party is now not only firmly integrated into extreme right-wing structures, it is now the mainstay and financing pillar of this," said SPD General Secretary Henning Homann on Wednesday in Dresden.

The AfD is, among other things, the “parliamentary arm” of the Identities Movement, the organization “One Percent” or the new right-wing think tank “Institute for State Policy” around the publisher Götz Kubitscheck.

According to Homann, this radicalization of the AfD can be observed in an exemplary manner in Saxony.

"Today's AfD has nothing in common with the party that was once founded by Bernd Lucke and Frauke Petry, which was already acting far to the far right."

She undermines the constitutional order and has succeeded the NPD.

Meanwhile, the AfD feels deceived by the protection of the constitution.

"According to press reports, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution is said to have declared the entire AfD a suspected case," declared the two party leaders Tino Chrupalla and Jörg Meuthen on Wednesday.

The AfD itself has so far been "no official statement from the Federal Office that confirms this".

The fact that individual media have already quoted from an opinion that the Federal Office (BfV) only submitted this Monday in urgent proceedings before the Cologne Administrative Court shows "how little the standstill promise that the BfV had given in the urgent proceedings was worth".

The Office for the Protection of the Constitution had promised not to comment publicly on a classification until the end of the urgent proceedings before the administrative court and to refrain from observing MPs and candidates of the AfD until a decision was made.

On Wednesday, after a video conference between BfV President Thomas Haldenwang and the constitutional protection officers of the federal states, it became known that the classification of the entire party as a suspected case had already been implemented internally.

Meuthen and Chrupalla spoke of a “scandal that threatens to massively damage the AfD, especially in a super election year”.
