Oberstdorf (dpa) - A few days after the huge surprise in the mixed team, another German ski jumping coup at the World Championships in Oberstdorf failed to materialize.
Led by Juliane Seyfarth and local hero Katharina Althaus, the German team achieved a decent team result at the much-anticipated premiere on Wednesday, but had nothing to do with the awarding of the medals.
Seyfarth (118 and 123 meters) took 10th place, while Althaus (12th), Anna Rupprecht (15th) and Luisa Görlich (19th) made it into the second round without any difficulty, but could not with the facility on the Schattenberg keep up with the very best women in the world.
Instead, Maren Lundby became the first world champion.
The 26-year-old Norwegian won after jumps on 128 and 130.5 meters - so she was around 54 points ahead of the best German, which is the equivalent of around 30 meters.
Sara Takanashi from Japan secured silver (126 and 134 meters), bronze went to Nika Kriznar from Slovenia (126 and 129 meters).
The individual on the normal hill was won by Ema Klinec from Slovenia last week.
For the first time since 2013, there is no medal for Germany in the all-women competitions.
In 2015 and 2017, Carina Vogt was crowned individual world champion, before Althaus won individual silver and gold in team jumping in 2019.
The women's results at the home World Cup were disappointing.
Althaus did not get above rank ten in the individual, and rank five in the team title defense did not meet expectations.

But apart from the result, the ski jumpers were also delighted to be able to take part in a World Championship competition on the large hill for the first time.
"It's fun to watch the girls," said ex-athlete Svenja Würth on ZDF.
The 27-year-old was part of the ski jumping team for a long time, but switched to Nordic combined before the current season.
