Berlin (dpa / bb) - Hybrid teaching at Berlin schools is to be made easier for the time being with the help of mobile routers.

The Senate Education Administration announced on Wednesday that this is an interim solution until high-performance broadband lines lead into the schools.

The routers create a WLAN network in the classroom for wireless Internet access.

They connect to the telephone network like a cell phone via a SIM card.

The devices are to be procured centrally, the contracts for them are ready to be signed according to the administration.

The needs of the schools will be asked this week.

"In this way we can give schools the opportunity to have the technical prerequisites for implementing school-guided learning at home," said Senator Sandra Scheres (SPD).

The routers could also be used in classroom teaching.

The lack of digital equipment in schools has repeatedly given rise to criticism, especially since the beginning of the Corona crisis.

In the past, Berlin had progressed much more slowly than other federal states in investing the corresponding money from the federal government.
