Activists criticized what they described as the barbaric attack by Mahmoud Al-Werfalli, a militia commander, retired Major General Khalifa Haftar, wanted by the International Criminal Court, on a branch of Toyota in the Libyan city of Benghazi.
Al-Werfalli said on social media that he attacked the company’s branch due to the increase in the prices of goods sold to Haftar’s forces, threatening the owner of the company to be killed upon his return to Libya, as he resides abroad.
Tweeters said that Al-Werfalli is one of the causes of widespread corruption, stressing that the state of law does not address error by mistake or corruption by attacking civilians, insulting them and destroying equipment without any deterrence from the security authorities.

On August 15, 2017, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Al-Werfalli, accusing him of war crimes in six summary executions, during which more than 33 people were killed in different areas of Benghazi.
In September 2020, the European Union imposed sanctions on Al-Werfalli, along with another person and 3 entities, for "human rights violations" in Libya.
