Gera / Efurt (dpa / th) - The children's jury for the German children's media festival “Goldener Spatz” in Gera and Erfurt has been determined.

33 girls and boys between the ages of 9 and 13 from German-speaking countries were selected, as the German Children's Foundation "Goldener Spatz" announced on Wednesday.

The jury children decide on the best films and TV contributions and present the main prizes, the “Golden Sparrows”.

A second children's jury awards prizes to the best digital offers.

The interest of the young film and media fans was particularly great this year.

1113 applications were received for the children's jury.

That was the second highest number in the history of the festival, it said.

137 young critics alone applied for the digital children's jury, more than twice as many as last year.

There were 976 applications for the cinema / TV children's jury.

The young applicants each wrote a self-written review for 446 different films.

For the digital competition, for example, the children wrote reviews about the social media platform “TikTok”, the online game “Among Us” and also about the homeschooling platforms used such as “Teams”.

The jury applicants mainly dealt with corona and its consequences, environmental protection, climate change, loneliness, bullying and homeschooling.

During the festival week from June 6th to 12th, the selected girls and boys sift through the entire competition program and take a close look at the digital media offers.

Discussions, advice and ultimately the winners are decided.

According to the company, the “Goldene Spatz” is the largest festival for German-language children's media.
