The round of 16 first leg of the Metz Handball Champions League against the Germans of Borussia Dortmund, which was to take place on Sunday, has been postponed due to the constraints linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, Metz Handball announced on Wednesday.

"The round of 16 of the Champions League between Dortmund and Metz, initially scheduled for Sunday, will not be played due to sanitary conditions and regulations between Moselle (France) and Dortmund (Germany) which impose a five-day quarantine "Metz Handball explained in a statement.

Discussions are underway between the European Federation (EHF) and the two clubs, so that the double round-trip confrontation is played out in the same place, which cannot be in Moselle, added the club.

Metz took second place in his group in the first phase of the Champions League and is aiming for a place in the quarterfinals of the premier competition of European handball.

The winner of this round of 16 will face that of the match between Brest and the Danes of Esbjerg.
