The interrogation of Justice Senator Anna Galina (Greens) by the Hamburg public prosecutor in connection with the investigation against her former partner Michael Osterburg will be delayed.

As a spokeswoman for the public prosecutor told WELT, the investigators still have to evaluate "several hundred receipts", which is why the questioning is postponed.

The investigation against Osterburg has been running since spring 2020. He is accused of having embezzled parliamentary group funds for years as a former Green parliamentary group leader in the district by settling private expenses through the parliamentary group.

There are almost 70,000 euros in the room, including many restaurant visits from a time when he and Gallina were still a couple.

Among other things, a well-known lobster dinner in Malta, which is also the subject of the investigation, caused outrage on social media nationwide.

Gallina was committed to rescuing refugees in the Mediterranean on the island in 2017.

Osterburg had settled the lobster meal through the parliamentary group.

Although she had not eaten any lobster, Gallina had apologized for the irritation that "created such a negative impression on the public around my humanitarian mission in the Mediterranean".

Successors are ready

The spokeswoman for the public prosecutor emphasized that Anna Gallina would be interviewed as a witness in order to be able to clarify the matter further.

The opposition has already criticized the fact that the state chairman of the Greens and Senator for Justice has not yet been heard by the criminal prosecution authorities subordinate to her.

The Greens are currently preparing to succeed Gallina as head of the country: when she took office as Senator for Justice last year, she declared that she would not run for the presidency again.

There are now two applicants: The member of parliament and teacher Sina Demirhan (26) will compete against the deputy parliamentary group leader Maryam Blumenthal (35).

The pedagogue Blumenthal announced her candidacy at the beginning of January.

The election for the green state chairmanship is to take place on April 18.
