Eight people were injured when a 20-year-old man apparently raged with a blade in Vetlanda city center in southern Sweden, police said on Wednesday afternoon newspaper Aftonbladet.

Police shot the man in custody.

The severity of the attacker's injuries was not immediately known, but police say he is alive in the hospital.

- A total of eight people have suffered injuries, both severe and minor.

Some were taken by ambulance to the hospital, said police spokeswoman Angelica Israelsson Silfver.
