While the original calendar provided for a new meeting in Luanda, on March 2 a videoconference finally took place.

The Central African President met with the African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smaïl Chergui;

the President of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), Ambassador Gilberto Da Piedade Veríssimo;

the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix;

and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.

The various organizations hailed President Touadéra's outstretched hand towards the democratic opposition on the 2nd anniversary of the Khartoum peace agreement.

They insist on the stakes of this process of "

open and inclusive political dialogue

" which must associate from its preparation the public authorities, the opposition and the vital forces of the nation.

These institutions also underline "

the urgent need to relaunch the peace and reconciliation process

" in particular through the peace agreement of February 6, 2019 between the authorities, armed groups, the forces of women and young people.

The objective: "to

find a consensus in order to find lasting political solutions to the crisis

", indicate the senior officials in their joint statement.

The spokesperson for the presidency for his part ensures that the position remains unchanged.

The president will consider opening a dialogue with the democratic opposition when the electoral process is completed.

As far as armed groups are concerned, there is no question of dialoguing with those who do not respect the terms of the agreement.
