Munich (dpa / lby) - In view of more illegal car races during the corona pandemic, the ADAC Südbayern is calling for motorsport to be allowed again in clubs.

The motorsport offer is "exactly the right home to be able to travel here in a legally legal framework," said chairman Gerd Ennser on Wednesday in Munich.

In addition, the risk of infection is low compared to team sports, said the ADAC.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, 560 prohibited races with 771 participants fell across Bavaria last year.

This is an increase of around 90 percent compared to 2019, when 294 car races and 468 participants were statistically significant.

It was not until Tuesday evening that a 19-year-old man was killed as a passenger in a car accident in the district of Dillingen on the Danube - apparently after two young men had engaged in an illegal car race.

According to police reports, the 20-year-old driver of the car had strayed off the road and hit a tree while trying to overtake his rival.
