Halle (Saale) / Erfurt (dpa / th) - In Thuringia, young people with special support needs will also be encouraged to start their careers this year.

The Free State and the Federal Employment Agency are providing a total of 2.8 million euros, as the Ministry of Education and the Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia regional directorate announced to the Federal Agency on Wednesday.

According to the information, around 800 young people are currently receiving long-term support at 90 schools in Thuringia.

You will be guided step by step into the training by specially trained career starters.

For various reasons, the young people being looked after have significant difficulties in obtaining a secondary school leaving certificate.

Thuringia is one of only a few federal states that continues to promote career start-up support, it said.

The managing director of the regional directorate, Markus Behrens, said the funding came at the right time.

"The Corona crisis not only made the learning situation more difficult overall, it also placed major obstacles in the way of pupils with a strong need for support."

Education Minister Helmut Holter (Linke) emphasized: "For us, every young person without a school or professional qualification is one too many."
