In Jämtland County, between 20 and 25 people take their lives every year and the number of suicide alarms has increased.

Rickard Bracken, Secretary General of Suicide Zero, says in a press release that "it is completely unacceptable that all eight municipalities in the Jämtland Region lack well-thought-out strategies, fixed budgets and action plans for effective work to prevent suicide".

Anneli Thors says that the municipalities are of great importance and can prevent the situation, as they meet people of all ages and almost the entire population.

- They have a much bigger role than we have understood and above all enormous opportunities to be able to prevent suicide, she says.

The municipality needs effective suicide prevention and they get it by introducing action plans in every activity in the municipality.

There must be clear guidelines, strategies and activities.

- You need to set up responsible functions that will work with this plan.

It should not be that we do it based on a direct event, but it should be an ongoing work all the time, she says.

Training will now be held for a number of the county's municipal employees.

But that is not enough, the organization Suicide Zero believes.

Action plans to prevent suicide need to be introduced in every municipality, as soon as possible.
