The State Attorney General, Dolores Delgado, highlighted this Tuesday the role of the Prosecutor's Office in the investigation into the fiscal performance of the King Emeritus.

It has done so before the deputies of the Justice Commission, to whom it has been explained that the Prosecutor's Office has not stopped investigating, taking credit for the fact that Don Juan Carlos has presented two tax regularizations.

"I think it is the first time in the history of Spain that a former head of state has been investigated. And the Spanish Prosecutor's Office does it, respecting the constitutional guarantees, also of the investigated. It is done with absolute reserve, even under the risk that say or talk about the inactivity of the Prosecutor's Office, which has not stopped working. "

"Secondly," Delgado continued to end a four-hour appearance, "I would like to say that thanks to this investigation, which has advanced at the pace that international cooperation has allowed us, we have been able ... or it has occurred in less In two months that a certain important amount - and unimaginable at the beginning of this investigation - of money has emerged from the public coffers. We are talking about five million or so euros, this is of all Spaniards, obviously. "

To conclude, Delgado has indicated that there will be new investigations to verify the data that Don Juan Carlos has had to provide to settle his accounts with the Treasury and avoid an accusation of tax fraud.

"Surely the new regulations will give us data and force us to carry out new investigations and verifications," Delgado said.

The statement of the attorney general is in line with the statements made hours before by the minister spokesperson, María Jesús Montero, after the Council of Ministers: that the payment to the Treasury "does not end any process" and that the Treasury will check if the regularization "is true".

That the data are true and complete are requirements that the Penal Code indicates to avoid a conviction for tax fraud.

The five million euros mentioned by Delgado are the sum of the two amounts entered by Don Juan Carlos in the Treasury accounts: a first regularization of 680,000 euros and another last week of 4.4 million.
