Oberstdorf (dpa) - The Nordic World Ski Championships are starting their second week.

While medals are at stake again in the cross-country stadium, the first thing to do is qualify at the hill.

The snowboard world championship will also continue.

No Katharina Hennig, no surprise?

Without Germany's best cross-country skier, the chances of an unexpected coup on Tuesday are even less than they are anyway.

The 24-year-old presented herself out of shape at the start of the title fights and was not nominated for the first race of the second week of the World Cup.

The victory meanwhile only leads to defending champion Therese Johaug.

The 32-year-old Norwegian is hard to beat over the longer distances and is aiming for her twelfth gold medal at world championships.

The Swedish duo Frida Karlsson and Ebba Andersson are likely to be among their fiercest opponents.

The World Championship title for Selina Jörg on Monday in the parallel giant slalom is intended to give German snowboarders an extra boost on the second and last day of the competition.

Above all, Ramona Hofmeister and Cheyenne Loch want to step on the gas in the parallel slalom - after all, the two top favorites went empty-handed at first.

Two years ago Hofmeister was third in the World Cup in the discipline with the shorter goal distances, and Stefan Baumeister also won bronze.

SKI JUMPING

World Cup in Oberstdorf, Germany

6 p.m .: Qualification, women's singles, large hill

After the cold start on the normal hill, Germany's female ski jumpers have been on the move since their surprising triumph in mixed.

The world champions Katharina Althaus and Anna Rupprecht want to master the qualification hurdle on the large hill on Tuesday and make it into the top 40.

The favorites for gold are the Japanese Sara Takanashi and the young Austrian Marita Kramer.

It is the first large hill individual that women contest in World Cup history.

The decision on the medals will be made on Wednesday (5.15 p.m.).
