The French Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic hardly qualified on Tuesday for the second round of the Lyon tennis tournament after their victory in three sets at the expense of Océane Dodin (6-2, 2-6, 6-3) and the Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu (5-7, 7-5, 6-2).
After a well-mastered first set and won 6-2, Garcia, seeded N.3 in the event in which she is a stakeholder in the organization as a shareholder, got out of hand, especially in the service facing an opponent. currently ranked 110th in the WTA.
47th in the world, the Lyonnaise lost the second set 6-2 before winning with difficulty in the third set during which she made the break in the eighth game (5-3) before removing the decision on her eighth ball match (6-3) after 1 hour 58 minutes.
Caroline Garcia will face Thursday in the second round the winner of the match between Belarusian Vera Lapko (N.199) and Swiss Viktorija Golubic (N.129) scheduled for Wednesday.
For her part, Kristina Mladenovic, seeded N.4 (N.53), struggling with her throw-in on the first set lost 7-5 managed to react with difficulty to win in turn 7-5 in the second set in which she led 5-2 before Buzarnescu (N.135) managed to equalize (5-5).
Mladenovic then easily won the final set 6-2 after a bout of 2 hours 42 minutes.
She will face the Russian Margarita Gasparyan (N.131) in the next round on Thursday.
